ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (APP): Pakistan’s Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi have been nominated for the Player of the Tournament award in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022. During the past month-long tournament, some of the world's best cricket players lit up the stage while trying to become champions once again. Don't miss this opportunity to cast your vote! There are 9 finalists who will each make one last pitch before they are narrowed down to 3 finalists after voting closes during or just after Sunday's championship match at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia. Five Englishman and two Pakistani stars are on the list of nominees.
The player of the tournament will be voted upon by an expert panel and then, if necessary, it will also be determined via fan voting.
Nominations for this award are.
Shadab Khan (Pakistan): A key part of Pakistan’s run to the final with bat and ball; he has picked up 10 wickets so far at just 6.59 per over while contributing nicely to batting too—his most notable contribution being a 22-ball 52 during the win against South Africa.
Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan): Having only recently come back from injury, he hasn't disappointed, picking up 10 wickets so far at just 6.17 per over along the way-- including 4 against Bangladesh in what was arguably one of his best performances overall.
Virat Kohli (India): Leading scorer in competition with 296 runs so far; including four half-centuries which included India's momentous victory over Pakistan where he was unbeaten on 82*.
Suryakumar Yadav (India): With 239 runs at an astounding strike rate of 189.68, Yadav has been a key injector of momentum for India and is the No.1 ranked batter in the world according to the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings over the course of this tournament.
Sam Curran (England): Starting off strong with a five-wicket haul that set England up for victory over South Africa; Curran was able to maintain his composure when it mattered most, placing himself perfectly between ball and stumps time after time against New Zealand.
Jos Buttler (England): As captain, Buttler led by example - forming a fierce opening partnership with Alex Hales and clocking up 199 runs at an average striking rate of 143.16.
Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe): Zimbabwe’s time-old hero played a crucial role for his side in Australia, scoring 219 runs and chipping in with key wickets, including three against Pakistan.
Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka): Sri Lankan spinner has been the top wicket-taker so far this season; he has now taken 15 scalps at an average of just 13.26 apiece while maintaining a respectable economy rate of 6.41.
